General Electric Co. GE was dominating gainers on the Dow DJIA Friday, up nearly 4% at $25.61. The share price hasn’t been this high since the market unraveled in 2008. The reason? GE’s third-quarter earnings report which, despite going backwards, showed most of GE’s units lining up nicely heading into 2014.
Part of this recovery is five years of downsizing GE Capital. There’s probably room to cut even more, since the GE’s financial unit’s weak revenue and restructuring charges were largely to blame for an 8.6% slide in GE’s third-quarter net profit to $3.2 billion, or 31 cents a share. GE.
